What Boat Should I Paddle?
Wondering which boat to take out onto Sax Lake or another trip? Different boats appeal to different people for a variety of reasons, but here are some general guidelines for beginners.

Single kayaks are usually the most fun, and are actually the best boat for beginners trying to learn their paddling skills. Our single kayaks are sit-inside, leisurely, and quite stable.

Our fishing kayaks are larger versions of our single kayak model, making them a good choice for larger guests or for those with extra cargo. They also have holders for fishing rods.

Tandem kayaks hold two passengers, and are most ideal for a parent with a young child or for a seasoned paddler with a beginner. Putting two beginners together in a tandem kayak can be a great team-building exercise or… a total trainwreck! Tandem kayaks are also great on windy days, as they catch the wind less than canoes, and are generally our most stable boat.

Canoes are ideal for families, as two adults and a small child can fit inside comfortably. They’re also best for guests with dogs, or for a pair of paddlers with similar skill levels. They have lots of storage space – perfect for guests bringing a big cooler for a picnic on the lake. They also usually keep their occupants the driest, making them great for cooler days in Spring and Fall, though keep in mind that they can be difficult to control in the wind.
Weight Limit: 600 lbs

Paddleboards are best for guests who want to get wet! They’re easy to hop on and off of, and you don’t have to worry about swamping a boat. Although they’re called “stand-up” paddleboards, you don’t actually have to stand! Feel free to ask for a kayak paddle if you’d rather sit and paddle your board like a flat kayak.
