Bynum Lake (Self-Guided)
Haw River getaway on an off-the-beaten-path gorgeous reservoir just above the Bynum Dam. There are many island channels to go explore here. Watch for herons, mink, and even bald eagles amongst the unique horsetail reed landscape.
We’ll meet up at the 15-501 bridge parking lot. Your day begins with a shorter nature walk, as you head down an upriver trail from the dam. Then launch, paddle, and explore this unique flatwater created from the dam’s impounded water.
This area offers the scenery and wildlife common to rivers, but the tranquility of a lake! Guests are free to swim, fish, birdwatch, and picnic in their boats at their own leisure. This out-and-back trip is great for all skill levels (including beginners) – and you’re in control of the time/distance spent on the river.
